Abstract

The objective of this project was to design a Parshall channel flume for monitoring volumetric flows in open channels, in order to improve water use in the Guasave region, Sinaloa. To do this, a survey was conducted with 372 producers in the area to assess the demand and feasibility of a tool that allows monitoring the flow of liquids, a mechanical prototype was designed that allows controlling the volumetric flow of water when supplying it, a triangular channel located at the Higher Technological Institute of Guasave was calculated as a test model to estimate the maximum flow that could pass through the experimental field of said institution and based on that select a device in a range of adequate flow. In addition, the Parshall channel was designed in SolidWorks 2018® with dimensions for a 9” throat, which consists of a convergent section, a throat and a divergent section, designed to allow a simple measurement using only the height of the fluid. The material analysis for its elaboration was carried out, suggesting galvanized steel, for its durability, flexibility, high degree of corrosion resistance and its cost. This design allows optimizing the space, weight and performance of the flume.
