Buffel grass (Cenchrus ciliaris L.) is a forage species widely used in semi-arid regions due to its rusticity and adaptation to low water availability. However, the naturally low fertility of soils in these regions, particularly phosphorus deficiency and high acidity, may limit plant growth and forage production. This study aimed to evaluate the growth of buffel grass subjected to macronutrient fertilization and liming under greenhouse conditions. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with nine treatments and four replications, using pots with a capacity of 1.5 dm³. Treatments consisted of different phosphorus doses combined with the presence or absence of nitrogen, potassium, and liming. Plant height, number of tillers, and shoot dry matter production were evaluated in two successive harvests. No statistically significant differences were observed among treatments for the evaluated variables. Numerical differences were observed, with higher values in treatments receiving higher phosphorus doses associated with nitrogen, potassium, and liming; however, these differences were not statistically significant. The results indicate that, under controlled conditions and over more than one growth cycle, balanced nutrient management may contribute to stable growth of buffel grass, although further studies with longer experimental periods and validation under field conditions are required to confirm these effects.
